I really want you there…

My biggest film festival screening yet is this weekend!

The Script

Okay, I have to catch you up because this month has been wild!

I’m writing to you from set right now. As I mentioned in my last newsletter, I’m acting in a feature film through all of October, and it’s honestly so much fun. Dramatic scenes, action scenes, playing a bad guy, some firsts for me, which is cool. It’s been so nice getting to just act again instead of directing and producing the project as well. Directing is honestly more creatively fulfilling for me, but it’s also way more stressful and takes way more time. Getting to show up, give my 100%, and still use my filmmaking brain with less stress has been a gift.

But... here’s the BIG news: Dying for Love is screening at the Austin Film Festival!! 🎉 I know I’ve already announced this, but the festival is this next weekend!

The crazy part is that I wrap filming on October 30th, and the festival starts October 29th. I was hoping they’d schedule us so I could actually be there, and our first screening landed on October 31st. So yep, I’m literally running from set to the airport to be there. There’s a second screening on November 5th, too! I’d LOVE to see you there.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this past year and how much has changed, and something I’ve learned is how much I missed narrative storytelling through film. I feel like I’m thriving again, like this is what I was meant to do with my creative ability and passion.

I’ve been thinking about why God chose to communicate with us through story. The Bible is a narrative. He could have given us a list of facts, but He gave us a story. We’re wired to learn, remember, and be moved through story in a way that information alone can’t touch. A story gets into your heart, mind, and soul.

Diving back into storytelling through film has made me more excited about life than I’ve been in maybe eight or nine years. There’s a drive in me because I finally feel like I’m chasing what I’m supposed to be doing again, what God created me to do with my work.

On top of that, I’m so grateful for how many doors are opening right now. I have a family and two kids, and I knew breaking into the film industry would be tough and wouldn’t pay for a while. I decided to trust God with this season, because if this really was my next assignment, He’d have to open the doors. And He has. Back to back to back. It’s proving to me that I’m in the right place at the right time, doing what I’m meant to be doing.

One more thing I’m dying to tell you about, which I really shouldn’t be mentioning lol... I’ve got another romantic drama feature film in early development, and the conversations around it are going really, really well right now! I can’t spill actual details yet, but it could legitimately be green-lit soon. My first feature film?! Fingers crossed!

Anyways... Talk soon! Can’t wait to see you in Austin!

Project Hail Mary

This film is epic, exciting, and big in every single way, but it’s still so wholesome at its core. It’s packed with good values without ever feeling preachy, which is rare. This is one I genuinely can’t wait to show my kids one day. A must-watch for the whole family!

The Best Reading Device

I read my Kindle Paperwhite in bed every night, and it’s become my favorite way to unwind. The warm light is easy on the eyes and helps me fall asleep faster than my phone ever did. It’s also great on flights, lightweight with long battery life. I highly recommend it!

One way I express my creativity is through what I wear. This is what I’ve been loving recently:

Abercrombie & Fitch - F1 McLaren Graphic Sweatshirt

In honor of the F1 race in Austin yesterday, I had to share this graphic F1 sweatshirt from Abercrombie. Honestly, any of their F1 graphic tees or sweaters are a slam dunk. Jess and I have so many between the two of us, haha. Soft, cozy, and race-ready!

The below link is weird btw, you gotta select the 3rd color option to see the F1 sweater lol.
